Press Release
The Nevada Historical Society (NHS) is pleased to host the free Nevada Day Celebration, History for Our Holiday, on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nevada Historical Society located at 1650 North Virginia St, Reno, NV 89503. The day will feature a variety of activities, including arts and craft sale, demonstrations, access to museum exhibitions, crafts for children, and the Reno Living History Project to name a few.
There will be arts and crafts items for sale, door prize tickets available for purchase, and silent auction items to bid on, including an exclusive wine dinner for 4 held at the Historic Lakeshore House, now a private residence in Glenbrook, NV.
On exhibit for one day only is a rare artifact, never before displayed. This “believe it or not” item is one of the early museum artifacts collected in 1904 by NHS founder Jeanne Weir.
Between 11 and 2 the NHS will kick-off their Reno Living History Project. Residents are encouraged to bring family photos, letters, documents, or artifacts which are significant to the history of Reno. The items will be scanned or photographed along with documentation of their history. Contributions will be included in the NHS’s digital archive and be considered for the new “History of Reno” exhibition set to open in spring of 2018.
Get a jump on your holiday gifts by visiting the arts and craft booths scattered throughout the exhibitions. On the front lawn there will be live demonstrations of gold panning, iron works, spinning and weaving and more.
Participants are encouraged to take advantage of Nevada and Wild West themed selfie props to take selfies to share on the Nevada Historical Society facebook page! The best selfie will win a free annual membership pass to all the Nevada State museums.
At 3:00 p.m. Famed author Guy Clifton will cut the birthday cake, join in the fun!
