Noon
The Oxbow Incident Movie
75 minutes, 1943
This is the last High Noon program. It will be on hiatus up to six months.
This month we will be featuring the Oxbow Incident, a classic western movie adapted from Walter van Tilberg Clark’s novel.
In this classic Western, wanderers Gil Carter (Henry Fonda) and Art Croft (Henry Morgan) ride into a small Nevada town plagued by cattle thieves. Initially suspected of being the rustlers themselves, Carter and Croft eventually join a posse out to get the criminals, who also may be involved in a recent shooting. When the posse closes in on a group that could be the fugitives, they must decide on a course of action, with numerous lives hanging in the balance. William Wellman’s study of mob mentality is universally acclaimed as one of the classics of the western genre.
As always, after the program, Neal will answer questions from the audience.
Admission is $5 for adults; free for children 17 and younger and for Nevada Historical Society members. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited. For details, call 688-1190.
