Celebrating the 100^th Anniversary of the 1919 Military Convoy on the Lincoln Highway

In 1919, after World War 1, the U.S. Army needed to find if they had the ability to move troops and equipment from the fortified east coast to the west. Japan now was growing in military power, and all were concerned. Trucks were just in their infancy, and had been used in Europe during the war to move troops and equipment, the test: Were our roads up to the needs of the Army Transportation Corps? Find out if they were and compare the highways of 1919 to today. The talk will include a 30-minute video of the trip. This is film footage that was taken 98 years ago, these short clips are all that is left of the more than three hours that were filmed.

The Lincoln Highway Association was formed in the early 1990’s and Jim became a charter member. Currently he serves as the Association’s national Board member for Nevada. For a number of years, he has been giving presentations about western historical events.
