It had been raining in Jarbidge all day on Tuesday December 5, 1916. The mail stage was expected to arrive by 5:30 pm with a large shipment of cash to Crumley and Walkers Success Saloon, which acted as the local bank, to cash the miner’s monthly checks. On the road from Three Creek over Wilkins Island into Jarbidge it was snowing and the trip was a little slower than usual. At 6:30 pm residents at the north end of town heard a gunshot but thought nothing of it since it happened all the time. Soon after the gunshot, Rose Dexter heard the mail stages horses and hooves on the road and went outside to greet the driver. It was not snowing but the driver who Rose could clearly see the outline of did not look in Rose’s direction and just continued towards downtown. The mail stage never arrived. Get an detailed account of the robbery and murder, and the players involved in this small mining community. This will be fascinating lecture that you won’t want to miss! Intermission with wine and cheese refreshments.
