This month’s book is called “Reno’s Sundance Books and Music: Merchant Holds Sway in Historic Levy Mansion” with author Patty Cafferata who will discuss her book.

Summary of Talk
In 1907, Nevada merchant William Levy built his magnificent mansion for his family. In 2011, Sundance Books & Music, a modern day mercantile, moved into the stately house. The history of this building and family is explained. Included in the book are numerous photographs of the Levy family and mansion, the Palace Dry Goods and Carpet House, and Sundance Books and Music.

Author Bio
Political figure and lifelong Reno resident, Patty Cafferata is a lawyer and historian. She specializes in Nevada history highlighting residents and visitors, places and events. Previously, she authored a bi-monthly column on local history for the Reno Gazette Journal and wrote nine books on Nevada, including her Christmas in Nevada and co-authored Barbara F. Vucanovich: From Nevada to Congress and Back Again, both published by the University of Nevada Press.

The Writers’ Wednesday Lecture Series, held the second Wednesday of each month, features a different author who takes part in a book signing, a presentation and a question-and-answer session with the audience. A wine and cheese reception precedes the lecture.

The intent of the program is to highlight writers who specifically focus on Nevada, the Great Basin, or the West in general. The authors talk about the content of their books but also share details about the creative process.
