Mark Vollmer

Mark Vollmer is an award-winning outdoor photographer & instructor, and freelance writer based in Sparks, Nevada. His illustrated feature articles have appeared in Nevada Magazine, and his images have been widely published in regional books, calendars and brochures. The 2003 publication of his best-selling coffee-table book, Tahoe Rim Trail, Exploring the Jewel, co-photographed by Reno photographer Scott Sady, revealed Mark’s “tread lightly” practice. The University of Nevada Press guidebook series, 50 of the Best Strolls, Walks and Hikes Around Reno (2017) and 50 of the Best Strolls, Walks and Hikes Around Carson City (2020) features Mark’s photographs with author Mike White’s informative text.

The Writers’ Wednesday Lecture Series, held the second Wednesday of each month, features a different author who takes part in a book signing, a presentation and a question-and-answer session with the audience. A wine and cheese reception precedes the lecture.

The intent of the program is to highlight writers who specifically focus on Nevada, the Great Basin, or the West in general. The authors talk about the content of their books but also share details about the creative process.
