2026 Lifetime Achievement Gold Medal Winner, NHS Docent, Barbara Weinberg!

2026 Nevada Governor’s Points of Light Award program. This signature event honors individuals and organizations that model Nevada’s values of service, cooperation, compassion, and partnership. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Gold Medal Winner is Barbara Weinberg, our educational docent. Congratulations Barbara!

Barbara Weinberg has spent more than fifty years strengthening Northern Nevada through advocacy, education, philanthropy, & community service. Her lifelong involvement has included leadership with the American Association of University Women, advocacy for the Equal Rights Amendment & Title IX, service with the Nevada Historical Society, & work as a Master Gardener bringing gardening education into Washoe County classrooms. She is also a founding member of the Nevada Women’s Fund & has served in leadership & social action roles with Temple Sinai.

Barbara’s impact can be seen in programs & organizations that continue to thrive decades after she helped establish them. Through the Nevada Women’s Fund, more than $9 million in scholarships have been awarded to Northern Nevada women since 1982, while her work as a Nevada Historical Society docent has introduced generations of students to Nevada’s history. For 51 years, Barbara has used her voice, leadership, & ability to inspire others to advance education, women’s issues, religious acceptance, & community involvement—creating a legacy measured not only in what she has accomplished, but in the people she has inspired to serve alongside her.
