Don’t miss these two programs for August!

Rhinestone Confidential: My life backstage in a casino showroom

Join author E. M. Starr as she will talk about her book, Rhinestone Confidential at Writers’ Wednesday – On The GO! this month. It is a memoir that takes readers behind the scenes of the glamorous world of showgirls and the entertainment found in Reno near the end of its heyday. The author offers a candid look at the world of glitz and glamour, detailing the challenges, personalities and the creative process involved in costuming performers, particularly showgirls. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the world of costuming, performance and the celebrity culture all while employed at the iconic Harrah’s Casino in Reno, Nevada. Thanks to our community partner, Knights of Pythias for hosting this program at 980 Nevada Street, Reno, NV 89503.

Surviving Railroad Depots of Nevada

Join Jean-Guy Tanner Dubé, who will talk about the history about the surviving Railroad Depots of Nevada at High Noon this month. In a century and a half since, the Battle Born state has been served by a handful of railroads. One aspect of their legacy is the railroad depots and facilities built to serve local communities. A century ago, there were hundreds of depots dotting the state. Today, just over two dozen passenger and freight depots survive in Nevada.
