The Nevada Historical Society is temporarily closed to the general public during building renovations from January 1, 2025, until August 2026.

NHS Closure of Building

The Nevada Historical Society will be closed beginning January 1, 2025, through until August 2026, for seismic retrofitting, lighting and electrical upgrades, and replacement of the front entrance stairs and ramps. Staff have been scheduling off-site programming, Writers’ Wednesday and Nevada History Lectures that will begin March 2025.

Off-site Programming

Writers’ Wednesday — On The GO! will be hosted at the Knights of Pythias Building at 980 Nevada Street, Reno, Nevada 89503, and Nevada History—On The GO! will be hosted at the Sierra View Library at 4001 S Virginia St, Reno, Nevada 89502. High Noon will continue to be offered as a virtual program with our partner, the Washoe County Library.

Have you checked out the new color scheme for the building? The Nevada Historical Society building is a gray, blue, and white building with diamond-shaped windows.

Parking

Designated parking has signage posted on the east side of our building. If those spaces are taken, you can use any available UNR parking spaces, including space behind the KNPB station.

We have free, temporary parking passes available at the Admissions office that you can place on your dashboard.

Persons with disabilities may use the designated spaces in the parking lot in front of the museum.

RTC and Sierra Spirit Buses

There is a bus stop located in front of the museum, at 16th Street.

Heading North from Carson City

Take I-580 /US-395 N/N Carson Street. Take exit 68B for Interstate 80 W toward Reno/Sacramento. Merge onto I-80 W. Take exit 13 towards Downtown Reno/Virginia Street. Continue onto E 8th Street. Turn right onto N Virginia Street. Turn right onto 16th Street.

Heading South

Take US-395 S. Take exit 72 for Interstate 80 W toward Reno/Sacramento. Merge onto I-80 W. Take exit 13 towards Downtown Reno/Virginia Street. Continue onto E 8th Street. Turn right onto N Virginia Street. Turn right onto 16th Street.

Heading West
